Saturday Night Fever Racing Challenge Series Round 1

Introducing my younger brother Farez Kusairi, still newbie yet a potential driver. This year he will be starting off driving this Satria Neo from TKSB Maxboost race car - street category in SNFR 2014. Other than that, Farez will also be joining other grass root events and races with his own race car, a Proton Satria GSR 1.8L Turbo. As for now, he is the overall champion for Malaysia Superlap Battle Championship Series 2013 in Street Car - Open category. Hopefully, he can still carry that title again this year as we are going to join and support the event again this year.

Saturday Night Fever Racing Challenge Series 2014 or more likely to be known as SNFR round 1 were his first race this year and it was his first time experiencing racing in Sepang International Circuit, also his first dog fight race and of course, the races are all held at night.

Approximately a month or two, TKSB Maxboost boss and car owner (Qhai) has told Farez the good new and offered him to be his driver for SNFR this year. They together prepared the car and lemme tell ya, boy was Farez so excited and anxious for his first SNFR. I was happy and excited for him too, though it was a very very busy early start of the year for me. So I couldn't help much. A week before the race day, they were having difficulties with the brakes and how the car behaves during hard braking. Just a few days before the race night, they managed to get it done. Alhamdulillah.

Then comes the race day. The night before I had advised my brother for some tips and useful info for him to prepare himself for the race as I had my experiences for SNFR back in 2012. As calm as he tried to be during the race day, some of my awesome friends who were competing too, tried joking around with him as they also knew he was a newbie. Less pressure for him. Thanks guys! You are awesome!!

Anyway, during practice everything runs smoothly. There were problem with the car, suspension setup by Ftuned Racing was superb, tire pressure was okay and he was good to go for his first heat. Farez started off second last on the grid. At turn 9, he started to fight for better position by going head to head wiht another car; a white Proton Satria. Unfortunately, there were many actions happened during the 1st lap on heat 1. A Proton Iswara (which I think owned by a friend of mine too) spun at turn 12, hence resulting Farez's and the white Proton Satria had to brake on their line respectively. So what happens when you suddenly engaged hard braking on a racing line...? Yeah, chances are you may go side way or some cases, you probably spun as well. That's what happened for Farez's and the white Proton Satria (on Farez right side). Tragically, another car came from turn 11 had hit on Farez's rear causing an accident. The Satria Neo had a rear damage, causing the left side rear window to break and its bumper came off. Chassis of the car were a little off as well as the impact was severe.

Luckily no one was injured. Farez only strained his neck, but alhamdulillah, nothing was broken. The other car who had hit him also had severe damage on front side of his car. Both car could not continue their races and went back as soon as the event was over.

As for now, TKSB Maxboost is trying to prepare the Satria Neo for the next round. Hopefully, its being done on time. Personally, I think it was a good experience for Farez in his first SNFR. No one is injured, yet yes, MOTORSPORTS ARE DANGEROUS. But, with good safety measures like having rollcage, wearing proper racing attires and good awareness by both drivers and organizer, major accidents can be avoided. May it be on and off track, accidents and misfortunes may happen eventually.

So guys and girls, be sure to take it on the track if you want to race so badly or perhaps you do have the hunger for speed. There are so many small events with very very affordable entrance fees. The fun part is that everyone gets to have their own category. Be it a newbie or grass root champs, friendly faces are all around for everyone. Because, before champions were made, they started off somewhere. So you can too.

More updates coming.. so, stay tuned!

This is the car owner, from TKSB Maxboost, Mr. Qhai. Looking very serious before letting Farez go for his first heat.
